Both my Harley’s have had closed loop custom maps at a dynojet tuning centre with my power vision , but I wanted to swap exhausts on both and figured it would pay for itself over time. It basically takes whatever air/fuel table you load and by using the wide band O2 sensors it compares that table to the actual air /fuel ratios in the exhaust and suggests changes to your VE table to produce the desired result. I marked percentages of throttle with some masking tape on the twist grip and accelerated up some steep hills at all the throttle positions in the table to make sure I covered the whole range. When the changes being suggested are less than 5% you’re done. You flash the new map into the ECU, remove the auto tune and enjoy the ride. It helps if you have the power vision software on a PC which lets you study the suggested changes but it’s not essential. I definitely noticed smoother running at light load/ low throttle than when it came off the dyno. I assume because the dyno is tuning under simulated conditions where the auto tune is working out in the real world.
